Proposal
Here is my proposal for the project, Remembering Merton. I created a rough schedule along with it to give me a heads up on when I need to complete certain tasks of the project. The proposal went through a rewrite in January after receiving feedback from my supervisor. Originally, the project would focus only on the memories people have of their hometown. But after getting feedback and doing more research, I figure I should be specific about people’s memories by asking them what certain areas in that town are memorable to them, which leads them to have a bond with that town.
The Ethics Form of the project is very important, especially to the project manager who has people involved in it. I have written several forms showing the participants of my project what they need to do and how much of their time I need for the interviews. The participants understood their role in the project, and I gave them some freedom on how they could answer questions. Either through text or audio.
Consent Forms
Event though I ended up not interviewing people physically, I thought a risk assessment would be useful just in case I did. I even noted down my health and safety factors for myself when filming and taking pictures of areas in Merton, so that I understand what to do if any sense of danger comes towards me or others.
I contacted my participants through WhatsApp. Specifically, friends who grew up in Merton and have similar memories to the borough like me, as we used to hang out with each other a lot during Secondary School. I messaged them privately, gave an introduction to my project, and gave them the questions they are expected to answer through text or a voice recording. I could not contact them physically due to their busy schedules, but I still managed to receive answers, as most of them had the time to reply to me through private messaging.
Printed schedules were provided to each of us by our professors at the start of the year. We, as a group, jotted down the deadlines throughout the year, such as the proposal, crits, and the day we hand in our projects. Along with deadlines, I included my responsibilities for my project, such as filming, editing and interviews on dates when I will be available as a reminder.
